meet almond & joy

For the last 15 years, everytime we walk through Adventureland in Disneyland we have said we wanted to buy one of the ceramic birds they sell at the Bazaar. We always push it off and then forget by the time we leave.

About a year ago we decided that no matter what we would get one the next time we went. So we went in October and guess what…. They were sold out! Fuck! Just our luck.

We went again a month later and we did not see them at the Bazaar! Damn it! Well, that’s what we thought until Delilah saw some behind the counter!!!!

We bought two, had them wrapped up, and by the time we got back to the Grand Californian (mind you we headed straight to the room after we purchased them) and opened them up, they had both broken in several places. Fuck!

Headed back to the Bazaar with the broken birds. They didn’t look like they had anymore in stock to exchange! I was so disappointed! Then, they found two more hidden in the back stockroom!!! We made the exchange, and then SUPER wrapped them in bubble wrap and tape.

Getting them back to Oregon was quite the ordeal. These things are incredibly fragile. So they became my carry-on and I guarded them with my life, lol.

We made it home, unwrapped them, and they were perfectly in tact! We found a branch, created a little perch, and made a little home for them in the Atrium.

We named them Almond and Joy. And we love them.
